Victoria needs something new

The elephant in the room: 

My number one issue in Victoria is the city  allowing smoking illegal drugs in the open in downtown. As well, allowing people to be asleep face down on the pavement in a way that questions whether they are even alive. These two things say more about our city than anything else. It says we have no empathy. I feel embarrassed and ashamed for my kids having to grow up in a city with leaders with such a lack of concern. When our children and the thousands of visitors from around the world see this, they are saying the same thing as I am. “What kind of world do we live in? What kind of person allows this to happen?”This lack of empathy creates a generation of hopelessness.

This needs to change. To me, it towers above all other issues. 

Housing

This has been my number one issue every time I have ran for city council. It will always be the number one issue in the most beautiful city in Canada. My highest focus will be on affordable and low income housing for families and elderly.

Scooters/e-bikes/etc.

I’ve been blown away by the amount of conversations I’ve had about the madness that is happening on our roads, sidewalks and bike lanes. People are looking for clarity, accountability and leadership around this topic. Let’s keep the bike lanes enjoyable for everyone.

Doctors

I know, this isn’t our jurisdiction. But I have absolute zero confidence in our provincial and federal governments to take care of any of our country’s serious issues anytime soon. As a city, we can do something. 

I recommend a community funded healthcare center like other communities are doing successfully.

Another option may be offering three $100,000 loans to new family doctors coming to Victoria be used for the purchase of a home within Victoria. The loan does not have to be repaid if you stay 10 or more years practicing in Victoria.

Clover Point Park

I hate wasting money on projects that aren’t necessary but council ruined this park when they took away the full circle parking that allowed people with mobility restrictions and others to it enjoy it the way it was meant to be, from your car.

Stop the over spending

Stop the divide

For as long as I can remember, there has always been a divide within the city. An us against them kind of attitude that continues  to be fed by council after council. Why can’t we have bike lanes and parking? Why can there never be common ground? 

We need leaders that bring us together, not divide.

The horse carriages 

Perhaps less of an issue in the past, all of the electric bikes and scooters and extra  traffic has changed the way we look at this issue. Sadly, it is time to phase out the horse carriages of Victoria. It’s simply become too dangerous.

Seagull bomb cleaning station 

This will be a foot activated pump and sink station located on Government street, that an unlucky person could use to clean their hair if they get bombed. It would also have wipes and paper towels. Perhaps the ability to purchase a T-shirt that says “I got seagull bombed in Victoria” with a funny picture. I imagine this being a lot of fun on social media and, turning a crappy situation into something fun.
